Documents, ferries and admission benefits
Q1What travel document do Taiwan travelers need? Can it be issued on arrival?
An effective Mainland Travel Permit for Taiwan Residents is required. From 2025-11-20, 100 authorized ports can issue single-entry permits; this does not cover every port. If you have no valid permit, confirm application and boarding requirements with the port and airline or ferry operator beforehand.
Basic materials include a Taiwan identity card, Taiwan travel document and compliant photograph; minors or special circumstances may require additional documents. A single-entry permit is valid for three months according to its issued terms; a five-year card permit can also be applied for under the rules. Port waiting and processing times vary; 30-minute completion is not guaranteed.
From 2025-07-01 to 2027-12-31, first-time applicants are exempt from the official permit fee under the rules. Renewals, replacements, photographs and agency services should not all be assumed free.
Q2Do first-time Taiwan visitors get free attraction admission?
Fujian offers attraction-admission benefits for first-time Taiwan visitors. Official Fujian culture and tourism information in 2026 lists 112 A-rated attractions. The policy scope concerns government-guided admission pricing, not every attraction. First-issued permits with issuance count 01 may qualify within one year under applicable rules.
Confirm each attraction’s eligibility, one-year calculation, booking and admission checks. Ferries, sightseeing buses, cableways, shows and experiences may cost extra. Savings depend on the route and other existing discounts; RMB 300–600 per person is not a fixed promise.
Q3How does the Xiamen–Kinmen ferry work? Is it suitable for our group?
The main route links Xiamen Wutong and Kinmen Shuitou terminals. Sailing takes about 30 minutes; allow extra time for check-in and border inspection. Official 2026 information lists 24 sailings daily across both directions, not 24 return trips.
It can suit groups connecting through Kinmen or meeting travelers arriving by other routes. Confirm sailings, passenger eligibility, tickets and weather before booking and departure. Express-channel eligibility is determined by border authorities and is not a guaranteed total clearance time.
Q4What other cross-strait ferry routes serve Fujian?
Other routes connect Quanzhou Shijing–Kinmen Shuitou, Lianjiang Huangqi–Matsu Baisha and Mawei Langqi–Matsu Fuao. Huangqi–Matsu takes about 25 minutes. Confirm sailing and onward-transfer times for each operator.
Official 2026 Spring Festival guidance listed four daily sailings on each Quanzhou–Kinmen, Huangqi–Matsu and Langqi–Matsu route: two in each direction. Four sailings does not mean four return trips. Check the actual travel date for extra services or cancellations.
Payments, connectivity and independent travel
Q5How can Taiwan visitors pay in Fujian? Can Taiwan cards be linked?
Alipay and Weixin Pay support selected cards issued outside mainland China. Eligibility depends on the card, issuer, identity verification and platform rules. Set up and test a small payment before travel; check fees, exchange rates and limits. Not every Taiwan card or transfer function is supported.
Carry a little RMB cash alongside mobile payment. Check card acceptance signs at merchants. Ask our team for payment setup guidance before departure.
Q6How should we prepare mobile data and connectivity?
Compare Taiwan mobile roaming, travel data SIMs or eSIMs. Check device compatibility, mainland coverage, validity, data allowance and tethering. Ask the carrier about local SIM identity requirements; not every phone supports eSIM.
Download offline maps and keep meeting details available. Study or business groups can discuss a backup hotspot rather than rely entirely on hotel Wi-Fi.
# Q6Q7Can Taiwan visitors travel independently or must they join a tour?
Independent travel can be planned subject to valid documents, transport and destination rules. Local arrangements can also be commissioned in Fujian. Private groups help coordinate ferries, worship times, clan halls, craft experiences and different travel paces.
You may book only a vehicle, guide or selected activities. See Q22 for Taiwan travel-business rules; changing a group label does not replace compliance checks.
# Q7Group needs and travel pace
Q8How early should we prepare a pilgrimage or roots trip?
Start discussions about 45–60 days ahead, earlier for festivals or large groups. Provide surname, ancestral place, clan-hall clues, temples, rituals and vegetarian needs so venues and transport can be coordinated. Clear clues help research but do not guarantee a family match or appointment.
# Q8Q9Can vegetarian, halal and other dietary needs be arranged?
Discuss these needs during planning. Specify vegan or vegetarian diets, allium restrictions, allergens and halal certification or preparation requirements. We will check restaurant capabilities; a separate kitchen alone does not establish halal certification or allergen safety.
Confirm meal and dietary arrangements in the itinerary so the group leader and restaurants receive consistent information.
# Q9Q10Can seniors and wheelchair users travel? What about health needs?
First assess walking, stairs, vehicle access and rest needs. Check alternatives at tulou, old-town stone streets and ferry terminals. Discuss wheelchairs, gentle routes and breaks roughly every 60–90 minutes, adjusted to members and the day’s route.
Consult your own clinician about medical conditions, medicines and fitness to travel; share necessary care needs privately with our team. Medical escorts, wheelchairs and care equipment require advance confirmation and quotation and are not automatic inclusions.
# Q10Q11What should families with children or babies prepare?
Check each child’s documents and carrier requirements, including guardian documentation if needed. Confirm child-seat compatibility, meals, stroller storage, naps and rainy-day alternatives. Water activities depend on age, weather and site safety and are not a fixed inclusion.
# Q11Q12Which months are suitable for Fujian travel?
March–May can suit cultural and spring itineraries. June–September is popular for families and study groups but needs heat, storm and typhoon planning. October–November can suit old towns, photography and slower routes, subject to weather. December–February can feel damp and cold, with coastal and mountain differences.
Pilgrimages and folk events depend on lunar dates, organizers and reservations. No month guarantees dry weather or low prices; choose dates around the group’s purpose.
# Q12Q13What happens if a typhoon disrupts travel or ferries stop?
Discuss alternative attractions, accommodation, transport or new dates and confirm change/refund terms. A suspended cross-strait ferry cannot simply be replaced by a road journey; reassess available flights, routes, documents and booking conditions.
Follow official safety notices and implement feasible changes after confirming costs. Free rebooking or replacement transport is not guaranteed.
# Q13Itineraries, services and quotes
Q14Can we book only part of a route, such as Xiamen and Quanzhou?
Yes. A four-day, three-night Xiamen–Quanzhou trip can be a starting point, with tulou, Meizhou, Fuzhou, Pingtan or Wuyishan extensions. An extra destination does not always add just one day; consider ferries, drives, walking and overnight stays together.
# Q14Q15Is an overnight stay near the tulou worthwhile?
It depends on pace, room needs and transport. Staying nearby can reduce same-day return travel and allow early or late village visits. Check bathrooms, stairs, soundproofing, luggage and vehicle access. Seniors or mobility-limited travelers may prefer a daytime visit and a hotel in Nanjing town or Zhangzhou.
# Q15Q16Can Minnan commentary, Nanyin or puppet performances be arranged?
Request Taiwanese/Minnan commentary, subject to guide availability and language ability. Quanzhou Nanyin and string puppetry or Zhangzhou glove puppetry depend on venue schedules and seats. Confirm workshops separately; a demonstration is not necessarily a full staged performance.
# Q16Q17Are there compulsory shopping stops or spending targets?
No compulsory shopping or spending targets are arranged. Requested duty-free, tea or craft visits are listed with place, time and voluntary participation in the itinerary. Check whether shopping affects scheduled attractions or vehicle hours when comparing quotes.
# Q17Q18Are flights, ferry tickets and tips included?
Quotes generally start with Fujian local reception services. List Taiwan flights, cross-strait ferries, document fees and tips as included or excluded. If transport booking is requested, confirm fare, issuance, changes/refunds and service fees separately. Guide and driver tip terms are specified in the confirmation.
# Q18Q19What group size works well?
For 12–24 travelers, discuss a minibus; for 25–45, assess a coach and support vehicle. Larger groups need vehicle assignments, staggered meeting points and clear roles. These are planning ranges, not seat guarantees. Legal capacity must allow for guides, staff, luggage, golf bags, wheelchairs and strollers.
# Q19Q20Can you issue receipts and arrange association or corporate visits?
Discuss local arrangements for clans, temples, schools, associations and businesses. Provide the organization, purpose, intended contacts and receipt requirements. Agree on service details, activity plans and reporting scope/costs in advance; invoices and receipts reflect the actual transaction and applicable rules.
# Q20Q21How do we start an inquiry and obtain a quote?
Send your group type, size and ages, dates, essential ancestral places/temples or sights, and budget to LINE: yujiantrip. Include arrival/departure cities, accommodation, dietary and vehicle needs.
Once details are complete, our service target is two preliminary daily routes and quote frameworks within 48 hours. Temple, clan-hall, school or special-resource coordination may require more time; we will advise progress. Confirm final prices and availability in writing.
# Q21Group travel notices and Wuyishan
Q22How do Taiwan travel advisories and group-business rules affect the trip?
As checked on 2026-10-13, Taiwan’s Mainland Affairs Council risk page remains orange and advises avoiding non-essential travel. General tourism groups organized by Taiwan travel businesses and independent travelers follow different rules. We did not find an official lifting notice for general tourism-group restrictions; confirm current requirements with Taiwan’s Tourism Administration and your Taiwan operator.
The Tourism Administration’s 2026-09-08 notice describes measures effective September 1 for Taiwan travel businesses handling inspection, visit and public self-organized groups: risk notification, group-itinerary registration, business statistics and travel-business liability insurance. It is not a reopening notice for general tourism groups; clan, temple or school labels do not automatically establish compliance.
That group registration excludes individual passenger names and document details and does not require agencies to register independent travelers on their behalf. Confirm the Taiwan booking arrangement, documents, insurance, itinerary and receipts separately. Fujian local arrangements do not replace Taiwan group-business rules.
Q23What should a group confirm before visiting Wuyishan?
Wuyishan is a World Cultural and Natural Heritage site. Separate main-area admission, sightseeing buses and Jiuqu Stream raft reservations and charges: free entrance does not mean free buses, rafting or other experiences. Use official ticketing to confirm date-specific benefits, real-name booking and Taiwan-document collection procedures.
Confirm raft slots, release times, prices and suspensions with the official operator; prepare the group list and check availability. Tianyou Peak has many steps. Assess fitness, heat and weather, with tea culture or gentler routes as alternatives. Raft participation conditions also need confirmation.
